Teletherapy...
connecting with you where you are...

What is Teletherapy?

Teletherapy is a platform for mental health counseling that is delivered over a secure, HIPAA compliant video conferencing system. Since the pandemic, many clinicians have turned to teletherapy to continue providing high quality mental health services.  Many clients have grown accustomed to the convenience and flexibility that teletherapy offers.  Clients must be in the state of North Carolina when receiving services.

Benefits of Teletherapy

Teletherapy is easy, simple, and effective

  • All correspondence is electronic, meaning no printer, paper, or pen is required to get your forms signed and returned to the office before you begin receiving services.

  • The whole process is quick - a client could realistically schedule their first session and sign all required paperwork within that same day. Although that is not required, it does speed up the process of getting counseling services when you need them.

Teletherapy provides greater access to care

  • Many rural areas lack access to quality mental health services. Teletherapy offers counseling options to the entire state the therapist is licensed in, versus just their local area.

  • There is often more flexibility in scheduling Teletherapy sessions.

  • It is a great option for those experiencing physical limitations that prevent them from accessing in-person services.

Teletherapy can reduce the anxiety that may occur when attending in-person counseling

  • No worrying about finding the office and parking before your first session, no long waits in the waiting room, and no worrying about seeing someone you know in the office.

  • You can use those comfort items that you would typically use when you are struggling, such as your favorite cozy blanket, a hot mug of coffee, or even your soft, cuddly pet. These things can help you regulate throughout your session, so you're better able to engage in the process.

Teletherapy can save you time & money

  • You don't have to pay for gas to travel to the therapist's office.

  • It is often covered under many insurance plans.

  • Less time off work or away from family

Teletherapy reduces the public risk of spreading illnesses of all kinds

  • No masks required!

  • You can attend even if you are quarantined or contagious with another illness

  • It lowers the public risk of spreading COVID-19 or other illnesses.

How Does Teletherapy Work?

Teletherapy is a simple process that makes getting counseling services easy and quick. All "paperwork" is done electronically. The simplicity of the process allows the therapist to focus on the client, and the client to focus on the reason they came to therapy.

Aside from the New Client documentation that you will complete on-line, to engage in Teletherapy services, the client receives a link to a secure video conferencing system that allows the therapist and client to meet in a confidential space. The session is conducted just like it would in person.

That's Teletherapy in a nutshell! It's a simple, safe, and convenient alternative to traditional in-office therapy.

Tips for a Successful Teletherapy Experience

  • Log into the practice's Client Portal from a private, secure network.

  • Ensure a good internet connection is available prior to your session.

  • Sit in a quiet, private area of your home or office to ensure confidentiality and minimal interruption.

  • Your camera must be turned on at all times, unless a prior arrangement has been made with me.

  • Some clients prefer to wear earbuds or earphones during the session to reduce distraction. I wear earbuds during our sessions.

  • Please communicate any issues with teletherapy so we can work together to find a solution.

Teletherapy is a great option for many people.  During our Initial Consultation, we will discuss your unique situation and if teletherapy is appropriate for you.
